A Historic Journey of Peace Passes Through Our Carolina Communities
Something truly extraordinary is happening in the Indian Land, Lancaster, and Fort Mill area this January. A dedicated group of Buddhist monks, accompanied by their faithful companion Aloka the Peace Dog, are undertaking an incredible 120-day, 2,300-mile journey from Fort Worth, Texas to Washington, DC. What makes this especially meaningful for residents of the greater Charlotte area is that this inspiring Walk for Peace is coming right through our communities on January 13-15, 2026.

The Walk for Peace Mission: Unity Through Compassion
This journey represents something much deeper than a simple trek across America. As Bhikkhu Panñāsāra explains, “We walk not to protest, but to awaken the peace that already lives within each of us. The Walk for Peace is a simple yet meaningful reminder that unity and kindness begin within each of us and can radiate outward to families, communities, and society as a whole.”
The monks began their peaceful pilgrimage on October 26, 2025, and are walking through 10 states, visiting state capitals along the way including Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland. Their mission focuses on raising awareness of peace, loving kindness, and compassion—values that resonate deeply with the tight-knit communities of Indian Land, Lancaster, and Fort Mill.
